You will select this option if you have elected to take the 8-hour course or a judge has ordered you to take the course. The 8-Hour course is approved for the following courses: 8-Hour Basic Driver Improvement, 8-Hour Intermediate Driver Improvement Course, 8-Hour Advanced Driver Improvement, 8-Hour DDS (Defensive Driver School), and 8-Hour DDC (Defensive Driving Course).
If you've been
referred by your court or have been ordered by a Florida Judge to complete an 8-Hour Driver Improvement class, this is the course for you. (Point Removal)
Normally ordered by the courts as part of a sentencing judgment, this course is for the individual who has:
- Received multiple traffic citations
- Received mandatory or serious traffic violations
- Been involved in numerous collisions
- Received a second ticket in the last 12 months
- Judge has ordered you to take an 8-Hour course
How do I qualify for an 8-hour driving school course?
If you have not elected to attend driving school five (5) times in a lifetime, but you have attended a 4-hour driving school course during the past 12 months, you are eligible for an 8-hour driving school course. This option is not available if you have a commercial driver license, or have been charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 MPH.

Our Online 8 Hour Traffic School class is a Florida Certified Defensive Driving School (DDS) course typically assigned as a Court Order by a judge. Many Florida counties refer to this 8 hour driving course on their paperwork by different names and/or abbreviations including:
- 8 Hour Traffic School
- 8 Hour Intermediate Course (IDI)
- 8 Hour DDS class (Defensive Driver School)
- 8 Hour Basic Course
- 8 Hour DDC (Defensive Driving Course)
When the 8-Hour Basic Driver Improvement or 8-Hour Intermediate Driver Improvement Course is successfully completed, the Completion Certificate will be e-mailed immediately and available for download from your account. All completions are automatically reported to and electronically filed with the Clerk of the Court. We encourage students to complete the course within 4-5 business days prior to the court due date to have enough time for the completions to be filed.
Note: If you have been court ordered directly by a Judge or Magistrate to attend a driver improvement school, you should notify the court once you have completed the course and follow any necessary steps they instruct. The Clerk's Office will provide you with any additional submission requirements.
Q: Can I start the course, then stop and later startup again?
- Yes, you can start, stop and then restart each topic, but not the final exam.
- Each course topic can be restarted either at the beginning or at the place where you left off.
- The system will keep track of your progress and will know where to start if you desire to pick up where you left off.
- The final exam, if stopped in the middle, will restart you at the beginning of an entirely new exam.
Q: When can I take the final exam?
- You can take the final exam after completing the coursework.
Q: How do I know if I passed the final exam?
- Upon completion of the final exam you will see your score.
- 80% correct is required to pass.
- You may retake the final exam as many times as you would like until you pass.
Q: Can I retake the final exam if I did not pass, and is there a limit to the number of times I can retake it?
- There is no limit on the number of times you can retake the exam.
Q: If I want, can you have my Certificate of Course completion printed and mailed to me through regular mail?
- Yes, but there is an additional $7.50 mailing and handling fee
